Is the Stock Market Open Right Now?

The NYSE and Nasdaq core sessions are normally open 9:30 AM–4:00 PM ET on non-holiday weekdays. “U.S. stocks are trading” can also refer to premarket, after-hours or an overnight ATS—not the regular market.

Important distinction

A market, venue, broker and security can each have different availability. “Open” only means orders may execute in the specific session described.
